I love this album! I've got 2 in my vinyl collection (with one of them being a B&W one that has no blue-red-yellow splashes; that one is very hard to find in the wild). There are 37 U.S. cover variations. If you own it, which one do you have? A superfan posted his entire collection on youtube. If you're curious, it's under "Police Synchronicity LP Variations". :)

I can't stand 'Mother' and 'Every Breath You Take', the rest of the album is fantastic.

I agree. 'Mother' could have been replaced by 'Murder By Numbers', considering how terrible it sounds and its dumb Freudian inspiration

The first side is pretty average and I will probably never understand the love for 'Every Breath You Take', but 'King of Pain' and 'Wrapped Around Your Finger' are among the best songs of the 80s.

I love Mother personally...lol kinda unexpected from them for me! This album is very solid, I like all of it!

You may find Mother more amusing if you watch Psycho 2, and then relate the lyrics to what happens in that movie.

Mother is probably my all-time favourite Police song. The first time I heard it on cassette in my dad's van, I thought it was hilarious. It's probably what made me come back to this album and why I'm listening to it now.

While one quick read of the lyrics clearly shows this to be the ultimate stalker song, I have seen people, with a straight face AND all of their teeth, claim this song is a touching tribute to love. To which I ask: Have you seen Sting’s pursed lips and shadowy face in the video (watch from the 0:40 mark)? Clearly, this is not a song about love but something much darker and apparently in need of exact enunciation. How to improve the album (besides remastering to get the drums to actually punch and removing WiYF's lyrics): replace Mother and Miss Gradenko with Someone to Talk To and Once Upon a Daydream. Why did those get thrown in the B-side pile?!

Mother pretty much fucks the album, and I agree with below me Stewart's kit has no punch to it.

I have one main beef with this album: Hugh Padgham's New Wave-ready spacey production's cool and all but goddamnit he shafted Stewart hard; his drums lack punch and sound pretty anemic. Oh, and I've counted about 4 lame songs so far (Mother is even shittier than Behind My Camel; Miss Gradenko's kinda bleh but short, Footsteps... has Greg Lake-level stupid lyrics but I like the production, Murder By Numbers sucks - why'd they put it as the last song on the CD? Sahara is an awesome closer!)

@McFrye: agreed. the pros n cons of the so-called /bonus-track/ ... er... however one might wish to address it [the issue of /additional tracks/ (or some reordering) vs original release editions of same album]
